About Ella
I am a Junior at The Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics, and Humanities. School and learning have always been a big part of my life and something that I love, so much so that my two jobs are tutoring and working at a museum. I used to hate math because I did not think I was very good at it and lacked self-confidence; now, it is tied with history as my favorite subject. As I started to feel more comfortable with my math skills, I enjoyed the class more and more, and I now love learning new types of math.
I started tutoring when I joined my school's tutoring club at the beginning of my sophomore year. We go around to the junior highs in our district and tutor students struggling in any subject. I then, in February, started working at Mathnasium (and currently work but not during the school year). There I received official tutoring lessons and training.

I believe that every student is unique, and that the tutoring session should be tailored to their needs, not just the "average student." A hands-on approach often works best because it keeps kids engaged and interested in what they are learning. As a tutor, I want to help kids learn new skills and go back and help them work on skills they might have learned in the past but never mastered. Having a solid foundation of knowledge is necessary for students to succeed.
Because of that approach, I spend, on average, half the session working with a student on their current school work, and if necessary, spending the rest of the time helping them relearn or improve on past skills.
Being in high school gives me an advantage as a tutor because I am very acquainted with the school's curriculum and teachers' expectations, and it is easier for me to connect with my students because we have things in common.
I most recently completed honors algebra 2 (with an A) and Honors English 10 (also with an A); this means I will tutor elementary to 8th and sometimes 9th grade.
