About Maya

Your voice is one of the most honest instruments you'll ever play—it responds not only to technique, but to mood, mindset, and meaning. For the past 7 years, I’ve had the privilege of helping students—from teens preparing for auditions to young adults rediscovering their musical confidence—build healthy, expressive voices they can trust. My teaching blends structure with creativity. We start with a solid technical base: posture, breath engagement, tone shaping, articulation, pitch accuracy, and vocal registration. From there, we move into interpretation—teaching the voice not just how to sing a line, but why. I tailor lessons to the individual. That means exploring genres that speak to your heart—be it Broadway, acoustic pop, folk, R&B, or indie rock—while also encouraging experimentation and emotional range. I integrate customized warm-up tracks, progress tracking, and listening assignments so students can reinforce skills between lessons. Many of my students love themed sessions like “Tone Painting” or “Lyric Flip,” where we explore a familiar piece from a new emotional or stylistic angle. Vocal health is at the center of everything we do. I guide students through safe warm-ups and cool-downs, vocal pacing strategies, hydration and rest practices, and how to adjust their approach when tired or under stress. Performance coaching is available for students preparing for shows or juries—we work on presence, connection, audition mindset, and memorization. Most importantly, I create a space where students are empowered to explore without fear of judgment. Singing is personal. It’s vulnerable. And it’s brave. I’m here to walk with you every step of the way—to give you the tools to sound great, and the confidence to believe that your voice deserves to be heard.

About the lesson

Singing is a profound form of communication that unites the mechanics of vocal production, emotional expression, and cultural storytelling. My teaching philosophy is founded on Alignment, Creativity, Diversity, and Progress.

Alignment focuses on developing breath support, vocal placement, and body awareness to create a healthy, resonant, and sustainable voice. I guide students to establish these fundamentals to support technical proficiency and expressive freedom. Creativity is encouraged through improvisation, lyric analysis, and emotional storytelling exercises, helping students connect deeply with their music and develop a unique artistic voice.

Diversity is embraced by incorporating a wide range of musical genres and cultural influences, fostering adaptability and respect for different traditions. Progress is achieved through personalized goal-setting, effective practice strategies, and constructive feedback that motivate continual growth. I cultivate a supportive and inspiring learning environment where technique, artistry, and cultural appreciation merge, empowering singers to perform confidently, authentically, and passionately.
