About Adya
I am a first-year postgraduate Doctor of Medicine student at the University of Western Australia who provides maths tutoring services for students from years 7-12. As a recent graduate of Hornsby Girls High School (2022), I have developed a passion and proficiency in maths, leading to the 95.75 ATAR and band 6 in advanced maths that I achieved. I hope to share this passion with younger students who may or may not yet love maths as much as I do. I have tutoring experience of over six years in both private and small group class settings. In these roles, I helped improve many students' maths grades, but more importantly, helped them gain a clearer understanding of concepts than before. Along with tutoring high school maths, I have experience preparing students for the OC and selective test, with many of my students being offered places in top selective schools. Having recently completed high school, I have a clear understanding of the Australian maths syllabus and can facilitate students' learning experiences and further their knowledge. I aim to be as accessible to students outside the class as possible, often sending written solutions to urgent questions or explaining them through a phone call, as well as reviewing their English assignment papers before submission. I strive to support my students beyond the lesson and provide them with the support necessary to grow as both a student and individual. I look forward to seeing my students develop their mathematical ability and achieve their goals.

I want to help students who may not be doing very well in maths to succeed and challenge those who already excel with advanced content. My lessons are of 1-hour length for junior years (7-9) and 2 hours in length for year 10 and senior year students (11 and 12), however, this can be negotiated depending on the student's needs. I am also willing to teach multiple days of the week as preferred by the student. Though I tailor my classes to suit each student, the general structure of my lessons is reviewing last week's homework, clearing concepts from school, learning further content, doing example questions with full working out and highlighting main points, practising questions of all levels of difficulty and assigning homework. I also conduct occasional 'test' days to see if students understand the content being taught. I plan to use these along with school maths assessments and grades to address areas of weakness and help students strengthen the gaps in their knowledge. I teach students the logic behind maths, rather than telling them to remember formulas, as memory is temporary and maths is a subject that cannot be excelled in through memorisation. As a result, my students have a deeper and clearer understanding, enabling them to succeed at challenging questions that require well-developed critical thinking skills. My students find it easy to communicate with me as I am a recent high school graduate and like them, also a student. I understand the difficulties of struggling to grasp a concept, the frustration of not getting the results for the effort you put in, as well as the joys when you finally understand the content. Along with a tutor, I am a mentor and friend who supports students every step of the way, rejoicing in all their highs, supporting them in their lows and providing the necessary guidance and encouragement to move forward.
