About Chamuditha (Chamu)

I am a recent high school graduate with the world renown International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (scored 41/45) with a strong understanding and a 7 (merit) in mathematics AI higher level. I have also studied other maths subjects such as IB maths AA HL and specialist maths independently.

With few years' experience tutoring peers and younger students (years 8-12) through difficult concepts and internal assessments, my aim is to ensure that students develop a passion to understand and apply mathematical concepts to solve problems, both pure and applied.

As I have seen with my peers and younger students that I have taught, most of them make the mistake of only memorizing all the equations without really understanding when to use them. I aim to rationalize these equations and help students develop the most important skillset in maths: basic algebra.

About the lesson

I focus more on the "why"s than the "what"s in my lessons making the content easier to understand and retain information.
The length of a lesson will be based on individual preference and need. Normally, a 1 hour session will follow this routine:

5 mins recap of what is covered in school and what was covered last week.

40- 50 mins studying the topic together through textbooks and online videos. We will also solve the slightly complicated questions rather than the introductory problems together.

5- 10 mins recapping concepts and resolving doubts.

However, this depends on the student's need for tutoring, whether it is to get good grades or solely learn new challenging concepts.

Chamu was the 2024 IB Diploma Dux at Unley High School. He scored 42/45 points, competing against many other candidates internationally, and only one of a handful of students to achieve 42 points or above in South Australia. His ATAR was 99.95, being in the top 1% of Year 12s in 2024 in South Australia. He received 3 x 7s (perfect score) for his 3 Higher Level (Tertiary level) subjects of Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics, and also a 7 for Spanish ab initio (Beginners course - A2/B1 level). He has received two IBDP Awards this year, one for his overall high achievement in the IBDP and one for each of his merits (7s) in four of the six subjects he studied as part of the IB Diploma. Finally, Chamu is a thoughtful and respectful young man who encourages others to achieve their best.
