About Jeffrey

I'm a native English speaker who moved to Australia from Hong Kong at age 3.

I completed my schooling in Melbourne and have spent the past 6 years in the education sector, focused on migrant learning and education policy. I also hold graduate certifications in education from the University of Melbourne.

Outside of IELTS tutoring, I run a consulting firm working with the Australian Government on education policy. I continue taking on select students because I genuinely enjoy supporting learners directly in reaching their IELTS goals.

I also speak Cantonese and Mandarin fluently. Being multilingual gives me a real understanding of the gaps between English and non-English languages that learners need to bridge.

This is a particular advantage for Chinese-speaking students, though the cross-linguistic perspective benefits any ESL learner

Outside of work, I love snowboarding and scuba diving. These hobbies taught me many important traits that I bring into my teaching style: steady progress, patience with every student's pace, and persistence through setbacks

About the lesson

- Over the past 6 years, I've consistently helped students achieve 7.5 or above

- Every student starts with a diagnostic: I identify your current band level across all four skills, pinpoint the specific gaps holding your score back, and build a structured plan targeting the sections where you'll gain the most marks

- I focus heavily on the scoring criteria examiners actually use. Most students lose marks not because their English is weak, but because they haven't learned what the test rewards

- Sessions run for 60 minutes, enough time to work through exam-style practice, break down problem areas in detail, and set focused homework without losing concentration

- 120-minute intensive sessions are also available for students on tight deadlines

- I teach both online and in-person
