About ECB

**Hello! I'm Your Maths Teacher.**

Let me be direct: I know that for many students, maths feels like a foreign language—or worse, a test of worth. I don't believe that for a second. I believe maths is **logical, creative, and learnable by anyone** who is shown *how* to think about it.

I didn't always love maths. I learned to love it when a teacher finally stopped asking "What's the answer?" and started asking "How did you get there?" That changed everything. Now, I've spent over a decade helping school and high school students—from nervous beginners to exam-cramming seniors—find that same shift in confidence.

# My Professional Guarantee to You

- **I am fully qualified** and up-to-date with exam specifications (GCSE, IGCSE, IB, A-Level equivalents). I know the syllabus inside out, but I teach *understanding*, not just shortcuts.
- **I prepare relentlessly.** Every lesson is planned, paced, and has a clear "Plan B" if you get stuck or race ahead.
- **I protect your dignity.** No public shaming. No timed panic drills. Wrong answers are golden clues—they tell me exactly what you need next.
- **I respond to parents within 24 hours** and share honest, growth-focused updates—never just grades.

# My Classroom in 3 Words: ECB

| **E – Experience First** | You'll touch, draw, or guess before you see a formula. I never start with rules—I start with puzzles. |

| **C – Connect Clearly** | I link every new idea to something you already know—whether that's last week's lesson or your favorite video game. |

| **B – Build Slowly** | We master one small step at a time. You choose your own challenge level—core, stretch, or spicy. No one gets left behind or bored. |

Who Is This For?

- **Ages 7–13:** If you think maths is boring or scary—I'll show you the patterns, stories, and tricks behind the numbers.
- **Ages 14–18:** If you're preparing for exams, retaking a topic, or aiming for top grades—I'll give you structure, strategies, and the ability to check your own work like a pro.

My Final Promise

I will not judge you. I will not rush you. I will not confuse difficulty with intelligence.

What I *will* do is show up every day with patience, clarity, and genuine excitement for your progress. If you put in the effort, I will put in the creativity to make sure it pays off.

**Ready? Let's begin.**

My Approach as a Maths Teacher: The "ECB" Method (Maths Edition)
Mathematics is not about speed or memorization—it is about pattern recognition and logical resilience. My ECB philosophy adapts as follows:

E – Experience: We always start with a concrete, messy problem. Not a clean equation, but a real puzzle: "How many tiles for this weird-shaped floor?" or "If this phone battery drains like this, when do I panic?" You get your hands dirty with estimation, drawing, or even physical counting before any formula appears.

C – Connect: I relentlessly link new maths to what you already know. Fractions connect to sharing pizza; algebra connects to "missing number" puzzles from primary school; calculus (for high school) connects to average speed and steepness of hills. I also connect maths to other subjects—art (symmetry), geography (coordinates), PE (angles in sports).

B – Build: We construct the formal maths layer by layer. First, the intuitive idea (the "story"), then the mathematical language (words), then the symbols (equations), and finally the procedure (the algorithm). You never see the abstract rule before you've seen why we need it.

My Teaching Techniques & Methods (For Maths)
The "Wrong Answer" Analysis: When you give a wrong answer, I never say "No." I say, "Interesting—tell me how you got that." Often, your wrong answer has correct thinking behind it (e.g., you added denominators instead of finding common ones). I celebrate the thinking, then gently fix the step.

Concrete → Pictorial → Abstract (CPA): This is my golden rule. For any new concept:

Concrete: We use physical objects (counters, blocks, measuring tapes).

Pictorial: We draw bar models, number lines, or graphs.

Abstract: Only then do we write x + 3 = 7.

The "Maths Mistake" Hunt: I deliberately write incorrect worked examples on the board. Your job is to be a "detective" and find my error. This teaches you to self-check your own work far more effectively than repeated drills.

Estimation First: Before any calculation, I force a 5-second estimation: "Will the answer be bigger or smaller than 10? Roughly what?" This builds number sense and prevents "unreasonable answer" blindness.

"Teach Your Neighbour" in 2 Minutes: After solving a problem, you must explain your method to a partner using no maths symbols—only words or pictures. If your partner understands, you truly know it.
