If you would like a simple to use formula to help you progress and learn songs quickly - you are in the right place.
I have a proven method to help you learn your instrument, with easy to follow instructions to help you grasp ideas quickly. Once you learn the basics (for those just starting) you can then advance to more challenging music. That is when the fun truly begins.
I teach in a patient and straightforward manner, and will teach you to use all of your bow and the use of all 4 fingers at your first lesson. Because of the mechanics of playing is taught from the beginning I will lead you to the promised land and have you playing what you have always dreamed about, in no time. If you put in the time and follow my instructions and also practice on your own, you will begin to see what you are capable of.
I have been teaching for 25 plus years so know what works and what doesn't. I have taught all ages, from ages 3 to 83. I have found that adults who invest their own money tend to go the fastest, but have more time commitment constraints than kids. So I teach adults how to practice in the most efficient way possible. I help them figure out solutions on their own, by asking them questions throughout their lesson and in time they begin to see how to do it on their own at home.
With adolescents - I appeal to their logic and in a friendly way encourage and remind them of their end goal(s). Therefore, setting small goals along the way helps motivate them to do it more on their own, without need of much parent supervision (although they still need encouragement from their parents from time to time).
With children, I encourage parents to oversee what their kids are up to - to take interest and ask what they learned at their lessons. Kids tend to need a bit of parental involvement to be sure they following my instructions and to keep them on track with regular practice sessions.
I teach a few different methods and add in exercises of my own that will help reinforce what students are learning. Therefore, their instruction can vary and depending on their likes, the journey can involve different types of books and sheet music.
At the beginning, I write up a synopsis of each lesson so all students have a clear map to follow as they go through their week. This gives clear direction and is included free of charge.
I teach all levels - from beginner through advanced. This includes both violin and viola, as well as chin cello (a viola strung down to sound like a cello).
I am on the East coast, but have a flexible schedule. I can teach both 30 and 40 minutes, as well as one hour. Please inquire about rates.
I hold both a Bachelor's of music degree from USC in California and a Master's Degree from CSU in Colorado and have played in multiple professional string ensembles and orchestras. This has helped me know how to help any student interested in joining an orchestra or string ensemble, in both school and beyond. Listening, watching and blending are all learned aspects to successfully playing with others.
If you are a transfer student I will meet you where you are and help with any hurdles or deficits that may be hindering you. Usually, simple exercises can help reverse any issues you may be having.
I hope you will give me a try with an introductory free lesson to help you see that I am the right teacher for you!

After a year of trying to teach myself to play the violin, I realized that the absence of knowledgeable feedback was slowing my efforts. I was extremely fortunate to come across the more structured lessons offered by Ms. Drexler. Not only did she quickly rid me of some bad habits, but after only two years of lessons I have reached a strong intermediate level of playing. The lessons are both fun and challenging. Her encouragement for me to try new techniques and tunes has kept me from being stagnant and resulted in a better than ever performance of earlier songs I had learned, even adding slides and double stops! She is a very gifted instructor.
