About John
My name is John Dunaway and I have been an educator for over 20 years. As the ex-principal of a high school in Mexico City, lead ESL instructor, curriculum developer, and grammar specialist in many countries, I've professionally engaged with thousands of English language learners over the years. My strengths reside in my academic approach to methodology and pedagogical strategies particular to second-language acquisition. Academically, I have 2 BAs (Letters and Psychology), an MA in Philosophy, and 3 years of graduate work in Clinical Psychology. Currently, I am a healthcare provider as well as an ESL instructor, which I am quite passionate about. My approach is quite dynamic and thoughtful. I respect students and attempt to tap into strengths and multiple intelligences (visual, auditory, or other). My focus is on a stress-less experience and a rich exploration of all aspects of language reception and production. We will dive playfully into the nuances of language. We will learn in a step-by-step fashion as we articulate and reproduce all relevant English language essentials. Let's do this!!

Having taught in S. Korea, Mexico, Greece, Hawaii, and in Texas, I have created a sustainable and positive methodology to help second-language learners access information in a thoughtful and non-stressful manner. What sets me apart? I have been the principal of a high school in Mexico City as well as having over 5 years of experience in curriculum development and test creation. My focus is on client-centered approaches, as I lead students of all levels (beginners to advanced) through pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, sentence structure, listening and speaking exercises, and idiomatic expressions. My lessons are grounded in real-world English, emphasizing usage across many domains (social media, Gen Alpha slang, cultural/regional speak, political, and business). Let's join forces to appreciate English and dive into helpful learning tools (books, videos, games, etc.) that will make your journey a breeze. I've taught all ages and all proficiency levels. You will soon be speaking and reading with confidence!
