About Toby
From the Pool to the Desk: As a former swimming teacher, I’ve spent years coaching technique to maximise performance. I moved into tutoring because I wanted to help students 'work smarter, not harder' - using my own journey to an A*A*A*A to show them how to bypass the common mistakes that waste time and energy.
For me, academic output is defined as (Time Spent Revising x Efficiency of Revision). While you provide the time, I provide the methods to make your revision efficient.

If you’re looking for a tutor who truly understands the current pressure of A-levels, you’ve found the right place. Having achieved A* A* A* A in my own 2025 A-levels, I don’t just have fresh subject knowledge, but I know exactly how modern mark schemes work and the best ways to navigate the newest exam specifications.
I move away from textbook reading and focus on active application. My approach is built on three pillars:
Specification Mastery: We don’t learn ‘around’ the subject; we target the exact bullet points and methods the examiners are looking for.
Visual Learning: I visualise complex concepts where difficult descriptions and notation make it hard to comprehend.
Structured Learning: I don’t skip the basics. We solidify foundational knowledge before progressing to advanced topics, proactively ironing out the technical weaknesses that often surface under exam pressure.
To make every minute count, I utilise a ‘flipped’ approach:
1. Prep: Students complete specific past paper questions before the lesson.
2. Analysis: I mark this work in advance to identify your specific topic weaknesses.
3. The lesson: We spend our time together targeting those gaps and refining your technique.
These lessons are for all A level students. Whether you are currently working at a grade C trying to jump to an A, or are an A grade student aiming for a top-tier A*, I tailor the pace to your specific goals with your feedback as aid.
When not tutoring, find me teaching swimming to all ages, or on the rugby pitch!
