About Gerard
I am an alumnus from Imperial College London's Department of Computing, one of the best in the country and the world. I am currently studying abroad at Nagoya University in Japan. I have published papers in Computer Vision and AI, worked in industry, and have been tutoring clients ranging between Year 9 and University for over three years. I'm currently interested in Mathematical Logic and Category Theory. I make sure that students leave my lessons with me better mathematicians than when they started. What would make me happier than anything is if they never needed lessons with me again; I hadn't just taught them the material, but how to think for themselves and learn new material, so they don't need me anymore. I had some amazing luck with teachers and role models when I was growing up, and I'd like to pay this forwards.

My teaching methodology is anything but didactic; it is closer to the Socratic method. I believe that my function as a tutor is not to impart knowledge - students have teachers and textbooks for that. My role is rather to do those things that one can only do in the one-on-one setting: encourage creativity, critical thinking and interest in the subject. My ultimate goal is to raise good mathematicians, not just kids who get good grades. In my over three years of tutoring, I believe I have had a lot of success in this area. Therefore, during a typical 1 hour lesson I try to get students to derive all of the theorems and formulae for themselves wherever possible. For younger students, this might be talking about why we "complete the square". For older students, this might be the first principles definition of derivatives, the fundamental theorem of calculus or maybe deriving suvat from first principles. Once you know where these come from, I find students who initially struggled on problems suddenly improve.

I really needed a professional tutor in order to have help for my assignments from the University I go to, and when he told me he can help me, I couldn't believe it as many tutors who currently work for filed or have master/Phd degree were not able to help my assignments. That being said, he instantly helped my assignments with his professional knowledge for CS and amazing coding skill. He must be the one you are looking for , so if you are close to dead line for assignments , do not hesitate to contact him, and it is all from my experience from having tutoring sessions with him.
I met Mr. Gerard about a year ago and he has been a great tutor for computer science and the occasional mathematics. His timings are flexible and open to change to suit your needs, and the lessons are personalized. The teaching style helped me to understand instead of memorizing topics. Overall, Gerard is a phenomenal tutor that helped me through AP Computer Science and has flexible timing that fits during tough school weeks.
