About Haris
I studied Biomedical Sciences at Imperial College London, and spent time working in a laboratory afterwards. I then took a postgraduate degree in Banking and Finance, which led into a career across investment banking, markets, fintech and cryptocurrency. The work took me from London to Germany, Malaysia and across Asia, and I have written on finance and technology for Forbes, Entrepreneur and other publications along the way.
I have tutored GCSE and A-level students before, in maths, biology and economics, and I find the work genuinely rewarding. The mix of a scientific background and a career in finance tends to help, particularly with economics, where I can draw on real examples rather than abstract theory.
My aim is straightforward. I turn up prepared, communicate clearly with students and parents, and keep sessions relaxed enough that students feel able to ask questions and make mistakes. Most of what I do is rebuilding confidence alongside content, since the two usually go hand in hand. Outside of tutoring I stay curious across genetics, cosmology and technology, which I think is the quality that makes the difference in a good tutor.

Teaching is mostly listening before anything else. I want to know what you're finding hard, what you actually want to get out of this, and whether there's anything around the subject (exam pressure, a teacher you're not getting on with, a module you've fallen behind on) that's making it heavier than it needs to be.
From there we build something that fits you. I don't have a fixed method I drop on every student. Some people need a subject rebuilt from the foundations. Some just need company through the bits they find hard. Most are somewhere in between and it shifts week to week.
What matters to me is that you feel okay in the sessions. You should be able to ask anything, say you don't understand, go back over something three times. None of that is a problem. Most students are carrying a lot more stress around their work than their parents or teachers realise, and a good tutor is partly a subject expert and partly just someone on your side.
Biology, economics and maths each have their own flavour. Biology I like exploring properly, the why behind the what. Economics comes alive with real examples, which is something I can draw on from my years working in finance. Maths is usually about lowering the pressure; once that settles, the skills come.
Lesson length
An hour is the default. 90 minutes when it's helpful, particularly closer to mocks or exams. Happy to do an initial session to see if we're a good fit before arranging anything ongoing.
Who I work with
GCSE, A-level, resits, international students following the UK curriculum, and adults coming back to study. Online, wherever you are.
