About Ella

Ella has performed poetry sets around the UK, including at The National Centre for Writing, Wise Words Festival, Camden Inspire Festival, Shambala Festival, Into the Wild, Brighton’s Old Market, The Orange Tree Theatre, Stand Up & Slam/Brighton Komedia, Rebel Soap Box, Bring Your Own Bars and more. She has been commissioned to write poems for Lewes Women’s FC, Central Saint Martins, Tullamore D.E.W and Audio Active. Her publication history includes Poetry Wales, Ink, Sweat & Tears, Zindabad Zine, and more.

Ella is an alumna of the esteemed Roundhouse Poetry Collective and Apples & Snakes Writing Room. At the age of 19, Ella won the Pebble Trust Talent Award to bring her poetry show to Brighton Fringe, where it sold out and went on to critical acclaim at Edinburgh Fringe in 2017.

Ella produces, curates and hosts the acclaimed Arts Council-Funded poetry night Off the Chest. She curated their inaugural anthology, SPACES OF SIGNIFICANCE, published with Bad Betty Press and Broken Sleep Books, which includes work from 35 acclaimed UK writers, including her own.

Ella is a highly experienced facilitator, dramaturg and tutor, teaching drama to children and mentoring adults. She was a professional mentor for the University of Westminster’s SoH New Writing Festival and is currently a lead workshop facilitator for Broken Silence Theatre’s Playwright’s Hive and her writing group, Just Write It!, held at the Albany’s Deptford Lounge.

Scriptwriting
Have you always had an idea that you're dying to see on stage or screen? In my lessons on scriptwriting, I will take you through the process of planning and plotting a script, based on the classic five-act structure. We will build on this through specific lessons on dialogue, character, themes and forms. Whether you want to write for the stage, screen or even audio, I can help you grow core skills and develop your idea into a completed first draft. With a First Class Degree in Scriptwriting & Performance, plus professional credits, I can give you support to develop your skills, at whatever stage of your learning.

Poetry
In my poetry lessons, we will explore imagery, structure, voice and different poetic forms. I will introduce you to a body of poems and writing exercises to help you get pen to paper. We'll also look at techniques in editing your poems, and I will offer advice on how to send your work to journals for publication. I have been trained by world-class poets like Roger Robinson, Caroline Bird and Rachel Long, whose practices have inspired my approach to teaching poetry. I am an alumn of the Roundhouse Poetry Collective and Apples & Snakes Writing Room.

Performing & Acting
As a member of the National Youth Theatre, a qualified LAMDA exam tutor and an experienced performer, I can offer in-depth lessons on performance, acting or public speaking, for anyone wanting to learn or those preparing for LAMDA Exams. We will explore voice, movement, stage presence and text work. I will help you to take words off a page to form an engaging, dynamic performance.
