1. Assess Skills: Ask parents what the child is struggling with, and how they can be better supported.
2. Set Goals: Establish clear, achievable learning objectives for the duration of the tutoring lessons.
3. Weekly Lessons: Follow Khan Academy’s course intended to prepare you for the next grade (ex. get ready for 4th grade math)
4. Interactive Sessions: Incorporate interactive, fun, and creative games to reinforce concepts that are already taught.
5. Regular Reviews: Schedule reviews and quizzes to make sure there is understanding. These check-ins are not intended to be stressful at all.
6. Personalized Support: Provide individual attention to address specific student challenges.
7. Feedback: Encourage feedback from the student to adjust teaching methods, pace of learning, etc.
8. Parental Involvement: Engage parents with regular updates and suggestions for at-home reinforcement.
I am extremely friendly and patient. As someone who has had multiple tutors in the past, I have been able to pick up on skills that my previous tutors had that made me better understand the topics I was learning. I am comfortable teaching rising 4th and 5th graders. A typical lesson would last an hour long, starting with whatever unit in the Khan Academy course you feel that your child needs to start with.
