I am an incoming freshman at the Marine Academy of Science and Technology. I love working with young kids and believe the best way for kids to learn is through engaging lessons. I also love to play soccer, hang out with my friends, and play with cats and dogs.

English can be one of the hardest subjects for elementary students to understand. If a student struggles with reading I like to spend my lesson time reading passages and books to analyze. By analyzing we explore themes presented in the text, characterization, and more. Additionally, I like students to go through themselves and highlight any words that are new to them. From there I will define the word for them, give them synonyms and antonyms for the word, and encourage them to make their own sentence with the word. With older students in 4th, 5th, and 6th grade I like them to make post-its for what they read. This means that they read on their own and if a piece of the text sticks out to them they make a post-it on it explaining why it stuck out to them. These post-its can relate to theme, symbolism, setting, characters, writer's craft, and much more. Moreover, to practice writing I like to give students fun prompts that excite them. For each lesson I like to go over a new writing technique. Some writing techniques I can go over are sensory details, varied sentence beginnings, figurative language and more. I teach the students about how this technique is used in writing, provide examples, and allow them to attempt to use it in this prompt. As they learn more successful writing techniques guardians will see as their writing gradually improves.
