When I teach my students, I like to get a sense of what is troubling them about the topic at hand in particular. I want to zero in on the issue at hand and then provide them with the resources, critical thinking skills, and techniques necessary to overcome the issue and have the confidence to solve the problem again without the aid of a tutor or teacher. I do this providing as many examples as the student needs. My goal is to make sure my student is so well-versed in the topic that they are able to teach it to their peers.
Hello there! My name is Omeka and one of my many passions is tutoring. I'm an incoming medical student with a degree in Neuroscience from the University of California, Riverside. Some of my other hobbies and passions include music, dance, video games, and hiking. I've been a tutor for three years and have loved every second of it. For 2 years, I served as a tutor for my college and it provided me with a chance to establish relationships with my fellow students while helping them to adjust to the academic rigor of college. Currently, I'm employed as a math instructor for Mathnasium where I work with K-12 students assisting them in honing their math skills with learning plans provided the company. I also regularly help these students with their homework and test prep. I see to it that my students go to their classes prepared and confident in their abilities.
I love tutoring because it presents me with the opportunity to build relationships with other students from differing backgrounds. In doing this, I get the chance to learn something new each day and in turn use that to create more individualized learning techniques that will help my students thrive in school. Tutoring gives me a chance to help build a foundation of confidence within a student while fostering a judgement free atmosphere. My goal is to ensure that my students can look at a problem and use the skills they've learned to tackle it head on and in turn help others overcome their insecurities with the subject at hand. I'm excited to work you all!
