About Sin Yuen

I am an incoming PhD researcher and am currently completing my Master of International Relations at The University of Queensland, where I maintain a CGPA of 6.8/7.00. My academic foundation also includes a Bachelor of Arts with First Class Honours in Chinese Language and Literature, along with a minor in History.

Throughout my academic journey, I have worked extensively as a Research Assistant across multiple university projects. In these roles, I have gathered and analysed complex literature, proofread academic manuscripts, and assisted in developing seminar course materials. I am also an active academic writer. These experiences have given me a deep, practical understanding of global politics, philosophy, and historical international relations.

I want to teach because I am highly passionate about academic mentorship. Having successfully navigated the demands of rigorous research and honours thesis writing, I understand the common challenges that university students face. I want to help you build confidence in your own academic voice. My goal is to guide you through the process of critically analysing texts and structuring well-reasoned arguments, ensuring you are fully prepared to achieve high grades in your coursework and final-year projects.

Who are these lessons for?
My lessons are tailored for university students from Year 1 to Year 4 studying political science and international relations. I am especially passionate about supporting final-year students who want to achieve high grades and need structured guidance to develop a mature, rigorous thesis or final-year project.

Teaching Methodology & Techniques
My teaching approach focuses on building your analytical and critical thinking skills. To achieve this, our classes will emphasise:
1. Close Reading: We will carefully read and break down complex academic texts to ensure a clear and deep understanding of the core arguments.
2. Theoretical Application: We will practice applying different theoretical frameworks to analyse the exact same political or historical issue.
3. Critical Reflection: We will systematically evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of specific lenses, helping you understand the limits and strengths of different academic perspectives.

Lesson Format
Each lesson has a minimum length of 1 hour. This ensures we have adequate time to engage in deep discussions, thoroughly analyse texts, and review your writing without rushing.
