Hello! My name is Alex, and I am a current Computer Science student at the University of Cambridge. I'm really looking forward to talking about maths and/or informatics with you and helping you reach your full potential.
I offer tailored tuition for:
GCSE/A Level Maths and Further Maths,
Informatics Olympiad preparation,
Every stage of the Oxbridge/Imperial admissions process for Maths or Computer Science.
I am focused entirely on deconstructing and rethinking the way students think about maths, steering away from the classic method of "put numbers into formula" and moving towards complete understanding of maths to the point where it becomes trivial.
---- Please read on ----
Now, a bit of a personal story. I was initially led to approach maths with mindless rote memorisation instead of fundamentally understanding what was going on; I was not particularly "good at maths" nor did I harbour much interest in it either. In hindsight, this was due to the way I had been taught to the subject as a whole, which I now know is the standard experience in this country. In sixth form, however, I realised there was nothing stopping me to achieve far more than what I had been previously led to believe I could. I set out to understand how the maths I knew worked on a far deeper level, and I managed to go from barely scraping 9's at GCSE to consistent strong achievements in all Olympiads when I joined Sixth Form. From this personal experience, I am a strong believer that with the right support, absolutely ANYONE can not only become "good at maths" but also actually find something in it to love.
Of course, I aim to leave every student with a complete understanding of any specification, but what's more important is that every student leaves with a new-found understanding and passion for maths outside of the context of standardised tests.

In the past year, I worked and discussed with Alex on many maths and informatics problems. I can testify that Alex is experienced in and has a keen intuition on problem solving as a whole and is extremely capable of breaking a complex problem into smaller parts until it is trivial to understand for anybody. Additionally, from my interaction with him running multiple collaborative projects (such as britishinformatics.org), I can also say that he is organised and gets the job done. Overall, I recommend Alex to anybody wanting to get better at Maths / Informatics.
Alex is a bright person with a vast array of abilities. His knowledge in maths spans large range of concepts and he can problem solve effectively. He also has olympiad experience and can explain difficult concepts well.
Alex is an absolutely phenomenal tutor who helped me with my Further Maths A-Level. Each topic that I had trouble with he would break down to its most core concepts. This allowed me to really understand the fundamental workings and solve questions through applying this knowledge, instead of simply regurgitating methods. I went from getting scores around the grade B-A range to consistently performing at an A* standard; I would recommend Alex to anyone looking to really improve both their understanding of Maths and their grades.
