About Ramona
About Me: Ramona Moonflower Rubin
Welcome to my studio. I am an ecological multidisciplinary artist, researcher, and certified forest therapy guide based here in Berkeley. My life and work are dedicated to the intersection of creativity and the natural world—a space I refer to as Applied Psychoneuroecology.
I believe that art is one of the most effective ways to slow down, ground ourselves, and reconnect with our environment. My approach to teaching is not about rigid rules or complicated systems; it is about providing a quiet, supportive space where you can explore your own creative voice.
Whether we are working with acrylics or incorporating found natural materials like pine needles and sweetgrass, my goal is the same: to help you move away from the pressure of perfection and toward the joy of expression. I bring a blend of artistic intuition and a researcher's eye for detail to every lesson, ensuring you receive guidance that is both technically sound and deeply restorative.
When I’m not in the studio, you can often find me out on the trails—foraging for fungi, documenting wildflowers, or simply enjoying the quiet of the forest. I am passionate about dark sky preservation and protecting the natural spaces that sustain us, and I aim to bring that same sense of stewardship and wonder into our sessions.
If you are looking for a painting practice that honors your pace, respects the planet, and provides a much-needed breath of fresh air in a fast-paced world, I would love to create with you.

Ecological Artistry: Simple, Mindful Painting Lessons
My approach to painting is simple: we reconnect with the natural world through color and texture. I don't believe in overcomplicating the creative process with complex tools or rigid systems. Instead, I offer a space to slow down, work with natural or reclaimed materials, and paint with intention.
My Teaching Approach
I teach from a place of ecological awareness. My methods are designed to help you quiet the noise of daily life and find flow.
Tactile Exploration: We focus on the feel of the paint and the history of our materials—whether that’s using repurposed objects or finding inspiration in the forms of the forest.
Presence over Perfection: We prioritize the experience of making. If you leave a session feeling more grounded than when you arrived, we have succeeded.
A Typical Lesson Plan
We keep it focused and calm—usually a 60-to-90-minute session:
Opening (5 mins): We start with a brief moment of quiet to shift our focus to the work at hand.
Guided Practice (45–70 mins): We explore a specific technique or theme, letting the painting evolve naturally. I am there to guide your hand and offer technical support as needed.
Closing (10 mins): A gentle wrap-up where we look at what you created and discuss any insights that came up during the process.
What Sets Me Apart
I bring the eye of a researcher and the heart of a nature-based guide. I don't teach "by the book"; I teach how to listen to your own creative voice and how to integrate your love for the environment into your art. You get a mentor who is genuinely invested in your well-being and your artistic growth, without the unnecessary corporate baggage.
Who These Lessons Are For
I am looking to work with small, dedicated groups or individuals who want a more meaningful, contemplative approach to painting.
The Level: You don’t need to be a "pro." Whether you are a total beginner or an intermediate painter looking to reconnect with your practice, these lessons are for you.
The Intent: These are for anyone who values nature, simplicity, and finding a bit of calm in a fast-paced world. If you want to paint in a way that respects the planet and honors your own pace, you’ll find a comfortable home here.
