About Melanie

Hello! And thank you for being here! I'm Melanie; arts facilitator, artist, musician, human being. Art facilitation is not just a job for me. I have experience, both personally and professionally, of the power of the arts for healing and transformation. I am grateful to be able to create an environment that ignites this boundless, creative medicine that lays within us all. My work spans across many forms, environments and people. Helping to develop high levels of technical skills, transforming mental health and behavioural issues, and everything in between. Sometimes just simply (yet profoundly) encouraging lives to be a little better than they were before. I have helped tutor students to gain entry into various prestigious art schools, such as the BRIT school, and gain art scholarships at private schools across London. Moreover, I have also taught children with terminal illnesses, utilising creativity to help express their emotions, calm their mind and promote healing. The activities gave them a focus, a greater sense of peace, and was medicine for their nervous system through lowering cortisol and stress levels. I have worked with 90+ year olds with dementia, calming their emotions and improving focus and memory through learning songs and drawing. Working with teenagers from young offenders institutions, helping them to adopt responsibility by tapping into what positive change in the world they feel passionate about, and creating art for their community that reflects that. I am grateful to be able to connect with the full spectrum of ages, needs and unique personalities. My holistic, therapeutic arts tuition is a philosophy, a mode of healing, and an invitation to live your truest, highest self. I very much look forward to creating with you soon! About the lesson

Strong background in professional art tuition for both adults and children of all ages. In private art studios, large painting events, and within educational and hospital settings. A person-centred approach, appreciating the unique requirements and needs of each student, and tailoring sessions that aid in their development specifically. I take a holistic approach to art. Like holistic health strives to heal the entire being, holistic art unifies the full spectrum of creative expression. For example, if we are to become better technical artists, we must first understand the philosophy behind what we are doing, or the work has no depth. A technically good piece of art is made beautiful through it representing something meaningful. The skill of the piece is now also an expression of the artist's soul, which resonates with the onlooker on a spiritual level. Moreover, if we wish to heal ourselves through art, learning the technical skills can aid us in that, as it provides our mind with a sense of achievement, and awareness that we can persevere with, and voluntarily confront, something challenging. This can enable us to better cope with difficulty in our lives in general, facilitating a calmer disposition and greater self-esteem. Inspired by the Ancient Greek teaching model of the Quadrivium, where ideas are explored through multiple disciplines, my arts facilitation is a unique holistic arts education that, much like the wholeness of holistic health, encompasses the full spectrum of human expression, and not just one aspect, such as technical ability. Facilitating an environment where people don’t just learn skills, but discover their own personal connection to creativity, healing and the spirit. The lessons range from 1-3 hours, and I am proficient in a variety of mediums, including watercolour, acrylic and tonal sketching. I am experienced in facilitating sessions for 4 years old up to 90- and beyond! I have worked with SEN/D, with youths from young offender institutions, new mums, 6-year-olds, accountants, the newly retired, babies, in care homes and more. I am thrilled to be able to connect with the full spectrum of ages, personalities and skill levels. Art facilitation is not just a job for me.
