About Madison

I am a dedicated, motivational, and unbelievably encouraging music theory tutor with 8 years of experience helping beginners across the USA realize that music theory is really just a simple, fun puzzle! I hold a Bachelor of Music in Composition from the University of Washington, and my greatest joy in life is taking intimidating academic concepts and translating them into easy-to-understand ideas that build student self-esteem. I struggled with theory when I was younger, so I guide students using my personal learning experiences to build confidence and discipline. Over the last eight years, I have successfully tutored high schoolers and college freshmen who were completely terrified of their school music classes, gently guiding them to total confidence through a highly positive learning environment. I am so proud to have received the "Creative Songwriting Educator of the Year Award" for making online theory completely stress-free. Through my online one-to-one live lessons, we use fun, bright digital whiteboards where every single question is celebrated as a step toward mastery!

Music theory is a beautiful, logical language, and my one-to-one online live lessons are expertly designed to make learning it incredibly empowering and fun! Whether you are a K-12 student wanting to understand how pop songs are made, or a college freshman needing friendly, motivational help with a tough university class, I am an interactive tutor turning complex questions into simple, easy-to-understand ideas. Using an extreme beginner, zero-level starting approach with very easy explanations, we will explore fascinating topics like the rich history of Musicology, the deeply creative art of Songwriting, and even the beautiful basics of arranging and orchestration. To ensure your ultimate success, I design lessons based on student requirements for better understanding and results. I will teach you in the way that you understand best, making learning simple and effective so you never feel lost, confused, or overwhelmed. Feel free to share your topic before class, and I will design the lesson specially for you!
