I am an English professor who has taught for seventeen years and tutored professionally for twelve years at the community college level. I am CRLA certified as an international tutor, and I have a lot of experience tutoring and teaching ESL students.

My methodology is to listen to student concerns before looking at an essay. The rest of the session is a collaborative effort identifying problem areas. This consists of me pointing out an issue, explaining why it is an issue, then modelling a solution for the student. The student then begins to find mistakes on his/her own. My goal is to instill self confidence as a writer/editor and eventually make tutoring unnecessary.
