About Matthew
Hi, I’m Matthew, a Mechanical Engineering (Space) and Physics student at the University of Sydney and an Auckland Grammar School graduate.
I achieved Cambridge A* grades in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Geography, and English, and received NZQA Scholarships in Physics, Chemistry, English, Geography, Statistics, Media Studies, and Religious Studies. My tutoring is designed for high-achieving senior students aiming for Excellence endorsements, A and A* grades in A levels, NZQA Scholarships, and top university pathways. I focus on developing deep conceptual understanding, strong problem-solving skills, and effective exam technique, which are what separate Merit/Excellence from Scholarship-level performance.
I use a structured, results-driven approach:
Clear explanation of core concepts using intuitive methods
Guided practice with challenging past paper and extension problems
Teaching exam strategies, time management, and mark optimisation
Regular feedback and personalised study plans for continuous improvement
A typical lesson is 60–90 minutes and are tailored to each student’s goals, school curriculum, and strengths/weaknesses.
My lessons are best suited for motivated NCEA Level 2–3, Scholarship, and Cambridge AS/A2 students, particularly those targeting top grades, scholarships, and competitive university courses.
For parents, I provide clear structure, progress tracking, and high academic standards to ensure students are challenged, supported, and progressing efficiently.
