About Valter

I am a descendent of the famous arhitect, painter and sculptor Gian Lorenzo BERNINI, credited with creating the Baroque style of sculpture.

I joined the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in 1970 as junior
clerk in Personnel Division, Professional Servicing Group.
Since 1971 I served in the Procurement Service (former Purchasing and Control Branch) where,
from 1973 to 2000 was (inter alia) responsible for:
briefing of field officers on FAO/UN rules and regulations relating to inventory, insurance, payments,
purchasing, shipping etc.; participating as speaker in the "English/French/Italian-Speaking Project
Directors/Co-ordinators and Programme Officers' Seminar" held twice a year in Hqs and as a
course trainer/organizer (also responsible for marketing) in the "Field Workshops on
Execution and Implementation of Technical Co-operation Projects" held two/three times a
year in the field.

Training at FAO/UNDP:

Diploma of Language Proficiency in English, French and Spanish (1972/76);
Better Drafting course (Phase I & II) in English and French (1981);
Management/Supervisory audiovisual series on: supervisory skills, time-management, organizational aims and key-jobs identification (1989);
Leading Effective Meeting course (1990);
Presentation Skills Workshop (1993);
MS-DOS, Lotus 1-2-3, MS-Mail, WordPerfect courses (1993/94);
Training of Trainers' Seminar (1994);
Communication & Negotiation Skills for Auditors, OIS (FAO Intranet) - (1995);
Excel, ORACLE (FAO-tailored), Powerpoint, Word courses (1996/97).

About the lesson

My teaching method is based on competency-based system relating to specific case studies explained and discussed in classroom, with the use of Powerpoint and videotapes recorded during the couse for review and comments by the participants (a useful homework).
