About Allison

I am a senior at Brown University studying Geophysics and Climate Physics. I’m from Chicago, and in my free time, I sing in a choir, teach myself Spanish, and love trying new restaurants and cuisines. After graduation, I hope to teach high school physics or math for a couple of years before pursuing a PhD in marine or aviation meteorology.

My teaching background includes 2 years of direct instructional experience through Mathnasium and Varsity Tutors, 9 years of tutoring and mentoring K-12 refugee children, and 4 years of undergraduate mentorship experience through Women in Science and Engineering. I have a strong background in working with neurodiverse learners as well as students from difficult and underrepresented backgrounds. In my sessions, I start with clear assessments to understand a student’s strengths and the specific skills they need to build. I then address the weaker areas one strategy at a time until the student can handle them with confidence. After that foundation is in place, I focus on building on their strongest skills to help them achieve maximum success.

About the lesson

When I was a high school student, I scored a 1580 on the SAT and a 35 on the ACT through extensive practice, effective study strategies, and learning the tests inside and out. Now, my goal is to help students understand how the SAT/ACT works so they can approach it with the same confidence and clarity.

In our sessions, we will: (1) Identify and fill content gaps that may be lowering your score, (2) develop personalized test-taking strategies that play to your strengths, (3) work through real SAT/ACT questions step-by-step to understand the logic behind the test, and (4) build the mindset that the SAT/ACT is a puzzle that can be learned and solved.

Once you understand how the test is designed, it becomes much more manageable—and sometimes even enjoyable. My goal is to help you play to your strengths, gain confidence, and steadily increase your score.

I look forward to working together and helping you reach your goals on the SAT or ACT.
