About Starlyte

With over eight years of dedicated SAT tutoring experience and an Ivy League education, I have guided more than 300 students through the ever-evolving landscape of college admissions testing. My journey began not as a tutor, but as a student who once sat exactly where you are now: nervous, uncertain, and overwhelmed by the weight of a single score. That empathy, combined with years of rigorous training in educational psychology and curriculum design, forms the foundation of this program.
I hold a Bachelor's degree from Columbia University, where I graduated with honors in Cognitive Science, giving me a deep understanding of how memory, attention, and stress intersect during high-stakes exams. My credentials, however, are only part of the story. What truly defines my work is an unwavering commitment to each student's individual growth. I do not view tutoring as a transactional service; I view it as a partnership. Your goals become my goals, your frustrations become my challenges to solve, and your victories become my greatest reward.
Parents often ask me what makes a great tutor. My answer is always the same: consistency, transparency, and genuine care. I arrive at every session prepared, punctual, and fully present. My track record speaks for itself. Over the past eight years, my students have achieved an average score improvement of 180 points, with many breaking the 1500 barrier for the first time. I have successfully worked with students across the full spectrum: from those with learning differences requiring patient, multi-sensory approaches to high-achievers needing that final push toward perfection.
Ultimately, my mission is simple: to demystify the SAT, dismantle your anxieties, and deliver results that open doors to the future you deserve. I do not take that responsibility lightly. When you choose to work with me, you are not just hiring a tutor, you are gaining an advocate, a strategist, and a partner who will be with you every step of the way, from our very first session to the moment you submit your college applications.
I look forward to meeting you and supporting you throughout this journey.

My Teaching Method & Techniques
I reject the repetitive "drill-only" approach. My methodology is cognitive scaffolding paired with strategic testsmanship.
Instead of just teaching content (algebra, grammar rules), I teach meta-cognition—how the SAT "thinks." I break down every question type into a repeatable decision-tree. For Reading, we focus on "evidence-based elimination" rather than subjective interpretation. For Math, we focus on "back-solving" and "pattern recognition" to bypass lengthy calculations. I identify your specific cognitive bottlenecks (e.g., careless errors under time pressure, weak vocabulary inference, or geometry blind spots) and build custom micro-drills to target only those areas, saving hours of generic review.

A Typical 90-Minute Lesson Plan
Every session follows a tight, high-energy structure to maximize retention:
1. The Warm-Up (5 mins): A "lightning round" of 5 mixed-difficulty questions from a previous weak area. This activates long-term memory and gets the brain into "test mode" immediately.
2. The Data Dive (10 mins): We review your homework from the previous session—but we don't just mark right/wrong. We categorize why you missed it (Content Gap? Misread? Time Crunch? Sloppy Math?). This is the most valuable part of the lesson.
3. The Deep-Dive Module (35 mins): We tackle one specific high-yield topic (e.g., "Advanced Command of Evidence Questions" or "Quadratic Functions & Parabolas"). I model my thinking out loud, then we solve 3 problems together (guided practice), then you solve 3 entirely on your own while I silently observe your process.
4. The Timed Sprint (20 mins): We do a timed 15-question mini-section to simulate pressure. I watch your pacing and body language—are you freezing? Are you spending too long on #12?
5. The Debrief & Homework (10 mins): We review the sprint results immediately. I assign 10-15 targeted problems based on today's mistakes, ensuring next week starts from a higher baseline.

What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor
Three things truly differentiate me:
• The "Why" Over the "What": I don't just show you the correct answer; I force you to explain your reasoning aloud. If you can teach the problem back to me, you own it. This builds unshakeable confidence.
• Psychological Pacing Training: I teach time management as a sport. I use specific breathing techniques, mental "checkpoint" strategies, and skip-pattern drills to ensure you never run out of time on test day. Most tutors ignore the panic factor—I confront it head-on.
• Data-Driven Customization: After 8+ years, I have a library of practice questions categorized by difficulty and mistake-type. We go through these problems in our session based on your strengths and weaknesses.

Who These Lessons Are For
My lessons are exclusively designed for current high school students (Grades 9–12) who are:
• Level: I work with everyone from first-time sophomores taking the PSAT to seniors taking their final shot in the fall.
• Class: I 1-on-1 private tutoring fully tailored to your learning style (visual, auditory, or kinesthetic), your target university, and your specific test date (Digital SAT or traditional paper).
In short: I don't just prepare you for a test; I prepare you to outsmart it, so that by the time you walk into that exam room, you're ready to tackle the exam!
