About Sophie

Hi! I'm Sophie and I am a third-year medical student at James Cook University who graduated from PLC in 2020 with an ATAR of 99.30. I am excited to offer Maths tutoring sessions to anyone in need of help! In high school, as an All-Rounder Scholarship student, I maintained a consistently high standard of academic achievement while balancing my commitments in sports, volunteering, leadership, family, and friends. Across years 11 and 12, I balanced state championship netball with my studies of English Advanced, Maths Advanced, Maths Extension 1, Chemistry, Geography, and PDHPE. I have experience teaching younger students new skills and ideas, from netball coaching of primary-aged children to teaching mathematics and science to primary and secondary school students. I prioritize making strong connections with my students so they can extend their understanding, improve their marks, and ultimately meet their potential. I am excited to offer tutoring to anyone in need of help with mathematics at any year level.

About the lesson

I am a passionate tutor with 3 years of experience who is committed to the continuous improvement of my students. I am an advocate for the 'work smarter, not harder' approach and see the value of balancing academics with other extracurricular pursuits to complement one another for the best outcome. I prioritize making strong connections with my students so they can extend their understanding, improve their marks, and ultimately reach their potential. I aim to guide students towards becoming more independent and critically thinking learners by tailoring sessions to the needs of the individual student and equipping them with the study strategies which are most effective for them.
