About Alicia

I am a Japanese and education Graduate now doing my post graduate in Secondary education specialising in teaching Japanese language and English as a Second Language. I am extremely passionate about language learning, and having experienced learning a second language myself has definitely highlighted some of the areas of the learning process I need to focus more on as a teacher myself. I have been volunteering at the my Universities International centre teaching English as a second language for just over a year now as well as had 2 previous students do Japanese tutoring with me in the past. I received positive feedback from both students, one whom I still teach and the other who has gone on to study Japanese at university level now. One thing I have learnt from my University education, volunteering and tutoring is that being a teacher is truly my calling. I love every minute of it and am very passionate about making each lesson the best for my students. I am currently 25 years old and am a very happy and friendly person who likes to make learning fun. About the lesson

As a non-native speaker of Japanese language I can understand just how hard it can be to learn a foreign language. I like to structure my lessons in a fun way that targets reading, writing and speaking. I understand that each individual student learns in different ways and at different paces, so I like to scaffold my lessons around each individual students needs to ensure they get the most out of each lesson. I use fun interactive powerpoints, educational videos, educational songs, writing handouts and dialogue practice to make my lessons interactive and fun. I have travelled and worked in Japan 3 times in the past, so am happy to share my experiences and discuss Japanese history, culture, media and daily life in Japan with my students to broaden their knowledge. I am open to any age groups from elementary up to adults who are interested in Japan. I am looking forward to working with you to reach your language goals!
