About Max
I study Composition at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, but I've had a long history as a concert and collaborative pianist. I have studied and worked with some of Australia's greatest pedagogues and members of Opera Australia, performing solo concert music and solo jazz improvisation. I have great knowledge and experience in teaching piano, and jazz piano techniques, having received a Certificate of Performance in Piano Repertoire (AMEB) with High Distinction. I've always loved teaching piano, as it's one of the most universal instruments and one of the best tools for students to find their own individual expression.

My approach is to assess what each student needs in order to technically improve, and then provide a specialised selection of exercises and repertoire that will improve the students technical and aural skills. I also integrate pieces and skills the student is interested in.
I believe in dedicating equal amounts of time during the lesson (and in practice) to: technical study, the pieces that the student is working on, and then facilitating the student's own improvisation at the piano. Depending on the student's needs, I am able to guide students through the preliminary learning of piano, but I'm also able to instruct students wishing to learn more advanced repertoire.
For High School age and Adult students, my recommendation is 1 hour lessons, and 30 minute lessons for younger students.
