About Lois
Teaching posture and hand position is where I start with every single player. I find that I am often adjusting a student mid-thought to ensure they avoid tension. My BMus from Berklee College of Music influences my structural approach to scales and arpeggios. I work with kids, teens, and performance-focused students who need a roadmap.
Self-taught players often come to me to fill in the gaps in their technical knowledge. I also emphasize sight transposition and ear training as core pillars of the craft.
Jazz improvisation becomes quite accessible once the classical repertoire foundation is set. I value the way a singer phrases music and I bring that vocal sensibility to my piano lessons. My own training in both voice and piano helps me communicate complex ideas clearly. Piano is my second study but it remains a constant part of my daily practice.
