About the lesson
My priority as a tutor is meeting the individual student's needs. Everyone has different goals for their tutoring sessions, so I personalize my lessons accordingly. In addition to asking about your language goals, I always ask for my students' prior educational experiences learning the language so I can better determine how best to improve their Spanish or English language skills quickly.
Lessons always begin with an explanation of the lesson's objectives and a quick review to help get the student's brain warmed up to learn new vocabulary and grammar structures. We practice using the language immediately in whatever modality the student is most comfortable with be it written or oral language. We then move into the type of communication that the student struggles more with as the lesson moves on.
I also often write songs to help my students to memorize new vocabulary and sentence structures. If you don't feel comfortable singing along with me, that is not a problem! Just listen attentively to the song so that it can get stuck in your head. That way you'll be able to access the knowledge you need whenever you need it!

My family is bilingual and bicultural. My native language is English; my husband's is Spanish. He is from Mexico. I am from the United States. We are raising our children bilingually. All 4 of us use both languages throughout the day, every day.
I have 14+ years of teaching experience. I use my language skills every day at work because I teach in a predominately Spanish speaking neighborhood. I also volunteer translating subtitles for TED talks to ensure that my academic language skills in both Spanish and English stay sharp. My English is North American, specifically the Midwestern United States. My Spanish is Central American, primarily Mexico, but I also have experience with Spanish from Argentina and Spain.
Sarah and I are coworkers at John Fiske Elementary. I have worked under the same roof as Sarah for a little over 2 years. I recommend Sarah because she goes above and beyond for her students. She meets them where they are academically. She is personable with her students, she cares for them first. She is persistent, trustworthy, and unique!
I am the Director of Religious Education at the church that Sarah and her family attend. Sarah not only is a teacher by profession, but she also volunteers to teach at our church! She is trustworthy on paper and as a person! She has been background checked, trained, certified, etc. She is also trustworthy as a person. She takes time to get to know each student. She works with each of their specific needs. She will work extra with them if they need it! All of the children love her at church. She is great with children one on one and in groups! I would recommend Sarah for any teaching position. It is definitely her passion!
This person is the best! She works hard and is very knowledgeable, as well as fluent in Spanish. She is the right choice for a tutor.
