About Samson
Hi, I'm Samson. In my experience, the kids who really take to the guitar aren't necessarily the ones with the quickest fingers — they're the ones who feel proud of what they've learned and excited to show it off. So a big part of how I teach is engineering plenty of those proud moments early and often.
The guitar is a wonderful instrument for young students because it's so social — friends and family actually want to hear a kid play a real song, and that kind of positive attention builds motivation faster than almost anything I could say myself.
I also make a point of treating parents as teammates rather than spectators. I keep communication simple and specific, and if practice at home isn't happening, I'd rather adjust the plan than let a family feel like they're doing something wrong. We're all working toward the same goal: a kid who genuinely enjoys the guitar.
If your child has been begging for lessons, or a guitar's been sitting untouched hoping someone will pick it up, I'd love to help turn that into something they're proud of and excited about.

Kids usually come to the guitar wanting one thing: to play an actual song, as soon as possible. So that's exactly where we start — even if it's just two or three simple chords, we build toward something the student can proudly show off within the first few lessons, rather than making them wait months before anything sounds real.
From there, we grow steadily: cleaner chord changes, a better sense of rhythm, a bit more independence with their fingers. I keep each new skill small and achievable, and I make a genuine fuss over every little milestone, because for a young player, feeling proud of progress is what keeps the guitar out of the closet between lessons.
I stay in easy contact with parents too — a short note after each lesson about what we covered, and one simple thing to try at home, rather than a long list that turns practice into a chore. If a family tells me practice has been a struggle, we adjust together rather than pushing harder.
At the end of the day, what matters most to me is that a child wants to pick the guitar back up on their own, not because they're told to. That kind of self-driven enthusiasm is the surest sign a love of music is taking root.
