About Ashmit
I used to find maths confusing, especially around Years 9-10 when things became vague and lots of technical terms were being used. I remember feeling lost despite trying my best. When I focused on understanding why certain methods were being used and where things came from, my approach to maths changed forever. I would not be where I am today, studying engineering at a top-rated university, if not for this change. Now, I want to help other students struggling to reach the same clarity as I did. I focus on explaining concepts in simple, logical terms, so that students can build confidence and learn how to problem-solve effectively.

I’m a first year Aeronautical Engineering MEng student at Imperial College London with a passion for mathematics and physics. I’ve mentored pre-GCSE and GCSE students in maths and physics, prioritising exam-based strategy and genuine understanding over rote memorisation. I aim to make tricky concepts feel logical and intuitive, helping students solidify core skills whilst building up problem-solving skills needed to access top marks. My approach involves step-by-step reasoning and frequent use of exam-style questions to help students identify common question types and patterns. I encourage students to verbalise their thought process to make errors more easily identifiable and to help reinforce their own understanding. My lessons are structured around exam specifications and trends in past papers. We will work on thinking like an examiner and identifying what a question wants from us to help access as many marks as we can. We will also work on general exam technique - how to stay calm and focused under time pressure, avoid silly mistakes, and knowing how to divide time between questions. Lessons will be a collaborative space where questions are actively encouraged and problems can be worked through together. Having recently completed GCSEs and A Levels (including Maths, Further Maths, and Physics at both levels), I understand where students find certain topics trickier and how to break down these challenges. I aim to make maths feel structured, accessible, and enjoyable. I’m flexible with timings and am happy to adapt to individual learning styles. I personally completed the Edexcel exam board but am able to comply with the specifications of all boards.
