About Aaron

Originally an experienced salesperson, recruiter and account manager, as a bilingual teacher I can teach any language that I can speak. Having taught a range of ages-from 3 years of age to 18+, I am ready to teach anyone of any age from anywhere. Prefer Skype or WeChat.

About the lesson

This depends largely on the information that I am initially provided with. Assuming it is a new student whom I know nothing about, the first class will be a mixture of an introduction and an easy going test to assess the student's ability or abilities. Assuming that they have no knowledge of the target language, I would begin with listening comprehension exercises-for example, "pick up the ...", followed by speaking tasks-for example, a situation whereby one must speak to get what they want or to achieve an objective, i.e. "please give me ...". With a bare beginner, these tasks would then be followed by a free flowing conversational activity, such as buying things from a shop.

All content of the above would taught using a combination of the following methods: TTT (Test, Teach, Test) and PPP (Presentation, Practice, Production). TTT: 1). Test-assess the student's current ability, 2). Teach-fill in gaps in student's knowledge (discovered during the first testing phase), 3). Test-Ensure that student/s has/have retained that which was taught to them. Within the "teach" and second "test" phase of TTT, you will find PPP: 1). Presentation-introduce the new content to the student/s, 2). Practice-provide a model for student/s to practice the new content with (i.e. TPR, etc.), 3). Production-provide the student/s with an activity in which they can apply the new content without the teacher's input, during this phase the teacher should record the student/s performance.

In the early phases, reading and writing would be introduced as a separate topic, as a student progresses closer to A1 (in accordance with the CEFR scale), reading and writing tasks would be gradually incorporated into into the speaking and listening lessons in order to combine all aspects of language together, thus engaging students' audio, visual and kinesthetic learning. It is during this stage that progress would improve the most.
