About Wentworth

I am a called barrister and practising solicitor with eight years’ experience managing legal cases, including High Court litigation. I achieved a Distinction in the Legal Practice Course, have over 200 hours of law tutoring experience and am a Superprof Ambassador with extensive positive student reviews.

I hold STEP Advanced Certificates in Taxation of Trusts and Estates, and Trusts Law and Practice (International), with a Distinction in the latter. My Philosophy BA focused on ethics and logic.

My strengths include explaining complex concepts simply and identifying the key legal knowledge students need. My practical experience helps me show how legal rules work, why particular facts matter and how to build a supported argument.

I am particularly good at questioning assumptions, identifying gaps in reasoning and challenging unsupported conclusions. My teaching is patient and constructive, encouraging students to consider competing interpretations and explain why one argument may be stronger than another.

A selection of reviews

‘He was a good tutor, very meticulous, particular and thorough. He really listened to what my requirements were and provided.’

‘Wentworth was a great tutor and I enjoyed and learnt a lot from his teaching techniques.’

‘The quality of teaching is excellent. My tutor Wentworth reads all of the texts I was given on a subject in advance, highlights them and finds further readings on the subject for me to read. His classes are very well structured and he discusses the topics in a way that makes them much more understandable.’

‘He is knowledgeable, engaging and extremely helpful regarding all areas of law. His method of teaching is engaging and fun and he also has a great sense of humour which has made it a lot less stressful. I would whole heartedly recommend Wentworth as a law tutor.’

Are you struggling to make sense of a difficult topic, apply the law to a question or turn your knowledge into a clear answer?

I offer tailored law tuition for LLB, GDL/PGDL, LLM, SQE, LPC and Bar Course students, alongside A-Level law support. I teach all core SQE1 and SQE2 subjects and support a broad range of academic and professional law modules, with the scope agreed against your syllabus.

I break complex material into manageable steps, explain technical language plainly and use practical examples to make the rules understandable. We identify the essential knowledge, work through its application and address the difficulties holding back your progress.

How I can help

• Subject understanding: Making difficult concepts clear, identifying key rules and distinctions, and understanding how different topics fit together.

• Problem questions: Identifying legal issues and significant facts, selecting appropriate rules and authorities, considering competing arguments and reaching supported conclusions.

• Essays: Interpreting the question, planning a focused response and developing clear, persuasive arguments supported by critical analysis.

• Multiple-choice examinations: Applying legal principles to scenarios, examining your reasoning and understanding why competing answers are incorrect.

• Revision, timing and assessment criteria: Identifying weaknesses in your preparation technique, revisiting difficult material and practising under timed conditions. For written assessments, we work on answer structure, appropriate depth and allocating time according to the marks available.

I can also support mooting preparation and legal applications or interviews, with the scope agreed beforehand.

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

During my Philosophy BA, I focused on ethics and logic. This naturally led to my studying a law conversion course and becoming a lawyer, as analytical thinking and justice underpin the theory and practice of law. My interest in teaching comes from a love of sharing knowledge and seeing students progress.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

Land law, property law, and equity and trusts are the subjects I love to teach. I specialise in these areas in my practice as a solicitor. My practical experience helps me to explain the law to students through real-world examples and practical applications.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Benjamin Franklin. I admire his intellectual curiosity, diplomacy, and even-temper.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Patience, experience, knowledge, and empathy, as well as a genuine enjoyment of the subject that spreads to the student.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

At school, I had an English teacher that was very inspirational to me. He was passionate about the subject, a great listener, and always encouraged an atmosphere where everyone’s opinion mattered. He also always managed to link the subject back to life and real-world experiences, and this is a quality that I adopt in my own teaching.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

When I first started studying, I found it difficult to accept the uncertainty of the law. It is an area of study that can be ambiguous and inconsistent. I have since learnt that there is no single “right” answer, and I encourage both myself and my students to explore reasoned arguments from multiple viewpoints, and to embrace the ambiguity to become better thinkers and advocates.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

I love to learn, and I am curious. The law is expansive, and always changing, so it offers an opportunity for continuous learning. In my job as a solicitor, I love seeing how one can use the law to protect and enforce peoples’ rights. It is the reason I volunteer every week at a legal advice centre.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P) ?

I have a genuine and sincere enthusiasm for teaching the law and seeing students fulfil their potential.
