I begin by establishing rapport with my students, as trust and positive emotions go a long way in long term retention. The first 5 minutes are spent reviewing previous topics and checking on independent study practices and review progress. We then explore the new topics and problems little by little while breaking down complex problems into manageable steps. I pace lessons based on student understanding with a focus on improving reasoning and logical thinking over memorization and procedure alone. This strategy has driven my success metrics in both teaching and private tutoring.
