About Shajeethan

- I am a high school science and maths teacher and have been tutoring for more than a decade.

- I currently hold the position of 'Leader of Learning in Key Stage 5 Science', and my role is to direct the Key Stage 5 Physics, Biology and Chemistry programmes at a high school.

- I graduated from University College London with a Master's in Physics in 2019.

- I obtained AAA in my A-Levels and 12A*-A in my GCSEs.

About the lesson

Hi there, I’m Shaj! I am an A-Level Physics and Maths specialist with more than a decade of tutoring experience.

Allow me to start by giving you a brief overview of my background and credentials. I’m a qualified teacher who has worked across multiple Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ schools, with one of them ranking as top 3 nationally for progress-8 scores. Currently I am the ‘Leader of Learning in KS5 Science’, and my primary role is to help teachers and students raise attainment at A-Level. My own educational background is that I completed a Master’s degree in Physics at UCL, obtained AAA at A-Level and 12A* - A at GCSE. But that’s enough about me… let’s talk about you!

So how can I help? Firstly, when you book a lesson with me, don’t just expect to spend an hour working on your physics or maths. No. I’ll help you plan the entire week of independent learning. I will design appropriate resources that aim to consolidate your understanding of new content, and strengthen your grasp of older content that you can use outside of lessons. Ultimately, how you organise your entire week is what sets an A-grade student apart from an E-grade student, and I will give you all the tools you need to be the former.

And how are the lessons? Firstly, I ensure that new content is always chunked into short teacher expositions. Then, I employ a range of engaging and analytical 20-60 second formative assessments (AfL) to constantly check if you understood my explanations. Once you pass the AfL, we transition to exam material to focus on consolidation and application of knowledge. All of this happens in the space of 10-15 minutes. Typically within a one-hour lesson, the aim is to cycle through this 4-5 times. That’s right, each hour is action-packed.

Each year, the demand is high and the number of hours I have available becomes more and more limited. As a result, I tend to focus on small group tutoring (typically two-to-one), and my hourly rate reflects this. I am also available for one-to-one upon request. There is next-to-no difference in the attention or care I show towards your child when I’m working in small groups, as the teaching style I’ve described above still ensures that I keep track of everyone’s full understanding.
