About James
I earned my B.S. in Biology from the University of Kentucky and my Ph.D. in Pharmacognosy, followed by postdoctoral training at the NIH focused on RNA biology. I am now a Research Assistant Professor, where I continue to conduct biomedical research and mentor developing scientists. Throughout my career, I have mentored high school, undergraduate, and graduate students with a wide range of backgrounds, experience levels, and academic goals.

I tailor every lesson to the student’s goals, current aptitude, and individual learning style. Whether you need to review previous material, prepare for an upcoming test, or get ahead for next semester, we’ll build a plan around your needs. My approach emphasizes a strong understanding of fundamental principles rather than memorization. When students understand the why behind biology and biochemistry, that knowledge lasts—and provides a foundation that makes new and more advanced concepts easier to understand.
