About Luis

I'm a documentary filmmaker based in London. I would like to teach: documentary movies history, film theory, practical filmmaking (how to plan, shoot and edit) and 2D animation. I've graduated in Italy (DAMS Bologna university) and worked in social documentaries before moving to the UK. Since September 2018 I work for a documentary production company (Chocolate Film) where I teach filmmaking and animation. We organise workshops in schools, social centres or others and have dedicated courses for online teaching (individual mentoring or more general classes). I have a DBS certificate.

About the lesson

My teaching method revolves around you. Depending on what you want to make out from this filmmaking course we can go through different aspects: from studying movies to learning production techniques or editing skills. Option 1 is movie history: you’ll learn different styles, cinematographies and authors (director, writer, photographer). After taking this course you’ll be able to analyse movies, experiment with different styles in your production or write movie critiques. Option 2 is practical filmmaking: we’ll cover any aspect of filming from pre-production (planning, screenwriting, scout locations) to filming (camera techniques, formats and setup), finishing off with delivery and distribution. Option 3 is pure editing: I can teach you how to make a story in the editing room with videos you have already filmed or stock footage. Lessons can cover any of the best video software on the market: Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut X, DaVinci Resolve. Editing can be basic, for first timer, or more advanced (ex. How to edit a travel video, a set interview or a music video). You’ll also learn how to record voiceover for your narration, sound effects, colour grading, transitions and export settings.
