About John

I've been working with software for over ten years. During that time I've been both a data architect as well as a full stack developer among other roles, so I'm familiar with both designing and using high-performance databases. I've gotten to use MySQL, Postgres, SQL Server, Oracle, MongoDB, and more! Designing databases is both an art and a science- you need a technical foundation which teaches the principles of good design as well as wisdom to decide when to employ those principles. I would love to share my knowledge with you!

About the lesson

What can you expect?

First you'll get a free 30-60 minute consultation lesson where we'll get to know each other and identify your goals. You'll get the opportunity to experience my teaching style and to see if we're a good fit.

For students that need help with an existing course or program, I'll provide freestyle tutoring sessions where we review problem areas, clarify key concepts, and supplement the course with real-life best practices that will help you succeed in class and beyond.

For students that do not already have a specific course, we'll work together to learn key database concepts by working through projects together. You'll get a taste of what it looks like to work on a backend project in a scrum team.

Perfect! John is very professional and helpful. He helped me understand the concepts so that I can improve on my own. Honestly, I've been telling people that I hate databases and SQL, but after getting the hang of some of this stuff because of John's sessions, I've changed my mind. I can see how this stuff could be pretty enjoyable if I had the right teacher. I highly recommend John for a database/SQL tutor.
