About Ying

Experience
I have been teaching Mandarin for 23 years, helping students of all levels achieve their language goals.

2020-present, all my lessons are conducted online via Zoom, allowing students to learn from anywhere.

2011 to 2019, I taught Mandarin at Castle Hill Library in Sydney, offering tailored lessons for various needs, including travel, business, academics, HSK, HSC, and personal interest.

2009 I was a casual Chinese teacher in two Sydney language schools.

2002 to 2007, I worked as a full-time Mandarin teacher at a language center in Shanghai, where I taught professionals and students from overseas companies, schools, and universities.

Qualifications
>Bachelor of Arts from Shanghai East China Normal University, majoring in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language;

>Certificate of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (advanced) issued by the Ministry of Education of the PRC;

>Certificate of National Mandarin Test for Chinese people, issued by Shanghai Mandarin Test Centre.

Certified Standard Mandarin Pronunciation
I am not only a native Chinese speaker, but I have also achieved Level 2, Grade A in the Putonghua Proficiency Test (PSC), issued by the Shanghai Mandarin Test Centre. This certification is essential for teaching Chinese language in China, as it ensures clear, standard pronunciation, which is crucial in a country with many regional dialects. My training guarantees students are learning authentic and accurate Mandarin.

Educational Background from a Top University
I graduated from East China Normal University, one of China’s most prestigious institutions for teacher training and education research. The university is renowned for its programs in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (TCFL), equipping me with strong pedagogical foundations.

Recognized International Teaching Qualification
I hold the Advanced Certificate in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, issued by Hanban (now the Center for Language Education and Cooperation under the Ministry of Education, China). This certification is highly regarded in international Chinese language education.

Over 23 Years of Teaching Experience
I have taught Mandarin for over two decades in both Shanghai and Sydney, working with learners from kindergarten age to 70 years old. My students have a high retention rate, many have continued with me from primary school through to university. Some started from zero and are now able to communicate confidently in Chinese, while others have gone on to study or work in China after intensive courses with me.

Every lesson is carefully prepared and customized to suit each student’s learning pace, goals, interests, and specific needs. Whether a student is learning for travel, exams, business, or cultural appreciation, the content is always relevant and engaging.

Support for Exam Preparation
I offer expert support for students preparing for HSK, HSC Chinese (Beginners, Continuers, and Extension), oral exams, grammar reviews, and writing tasks. I take a clear, patient, and structured approach to help learners gain confidence and achieve strong results.

Flexible and Convenient Scheduling
Online lessons: Available at mutually convenient times, with flexible rescheduling or cancellation (minimum 24 hours’ notice).
Hybrid lessons: Online plus in-person lessons may be arranged depending on availability.
Group lessons: Group learning with friends or family is available (Max 4 people), with the hourly rate shared among participants
