I love math, and that shows in how I teach it. I've coached two winning Math Olympiad teams, and my students consistently score higher than the school, district, and state averages. I teach students how to think through problems, not just recall formulas, so the results hold up on any test, not just the next one. My background in curriculum design means every lesson is intentional and built to get you there. I even aced my math certificate exam. I TEACH FOR MASTERY and REAL UNDERSTANDING! You'll learn to break math or writing down to the basics, then build up to the complex, so every new concept stands on solid ground instead of feeling like a memorized trick. You'll be able to create your own shortcuts when you understand WHAT to do, WHEN to do it, and WHY. I connect math to real life wherever I can, because when you understand why something works, you stop needing to cram it. You don't have to memorize what you understand. My approach draws on over 30 years of designing learning experiences across many age groups and settings, so I know how to meet you exactly where you are and build from there.

We start by identifying your strengths and what you already know. This helps us figure out what other skills you need to know to move you toward mastery. From there, I break the concept into step by step processes, walk you through it with real examples, and give you a chance to try it yourself while I'm right there to guide your steps until you're solving problems on your own. Every lesson ends with you explaining the process in detail, so you leave knowing you can do it, not hoping you do.

What sets me apart

I start from wherever you are by getting to know you first. I'm not just teaching formulas, I'm teaching you how to think through a problem so you can apply that thinking anywhere, not just on the next test. I'm patient and explain things in ways that you can relate to, and I genuinely believe every student can understand math when it's taught the right way for them.

I work with students across levels, from those needing to master the basics to those tackling more advanced coursework, and I tailor each lesson to the specific class, goals, and pace of the student in front of me. Whether you're catching up, staying ahead, or just tired of feeling lost in math or writing class, these lessons are for you. And yes, we will have fun.
