About Adam
I am a musician with 20 years of experience playing piano, guitar, accordion, drums, as well as singing. I specialize in composition and improvisation. I teach piano as a language, from reading and technique, to listening and composing. I started taking piano lessons when I was 5 years old. This quickly grew into a passion. I was trained by a blues / jazz pianist in Akron, Ohio, who helped me to understand how to both read and create music. In high school and college, I learned to play guitar, drums, accordion, and saxophone and was a singer / songwriter in multiple bands. Today, I work as an engineer by day, but continue to create music in my spare time. My goal is to help others have the same options I have had in my musical journey that has brought me so much joy.

OVERVIEW:
The goal of my lessons is to teach piano in a way that fosters a long term relationship with piano and music. My lessons take an original approach to music literacy, teaching music as a form of communication rather than something we simply read and recite. I create my own custom coursework to develop reading, listening, and self-expression. I've found that this well-rounded method often results in a lifelong love of music through genuine joy and creativity.
LEVEL:
I specialize in beginner and intermediate students. Beginner lessons will focus on basic technique, note reading, and training your ear. If you already have the basics down, my intermediate lessons focus on refining your technique and teaching you to create the more professional sound you want to hear while you are playing.
LESSON FORMAT:
I will take the student through a series of lessons that I have personally created. These will be provided in booklets for the student to keep and reference. The student will also be asked to purchase a few established books to support the coursework. Between lessons, the student will be assigned exercises and specific songs to practice.
