About Johnny
In teaching, I welcome students into the educational lineages I am proudest to hail from, including a jazz lineage connected to Oscar Peterson, a classical lineage connected to Martin Katz (who wrote the book on Collaborative Piano), and a folk lineage deep in my Southeast Alaskan roots. There is profound knowledge in these lineages, and I invite others to join them. I started piano lessons at age 5 and have oscillated between classical and jazz styles ever since. I've gigged with a blues band, a feel-good rock band, and a grunge band, and I have also performed in hour-plus classical recitals and shorter jazz recitals. I hold a Master of Music in Collaborative Piano Performance from the Longy School of Music of Bard College.

The ability to play and make music has brought me more joy than any other skill I have ever learned, and I teach because to pass along that joy to others and give them the ability to access it.
Accepting students 5 or older (including adults). No commuting necessary, lessons take place your house.
