About Zephaniah

I'm a Manchester-based DJ, music producer and sound engineer with over 10 years of experience working with music, performing, producing and recording.

I also work at Dead Basic Studio, a beautiful, organic-feeling commercial recording studio that's home to some of Manchester's most prolific bands and artists. Working in a professional studio environment gives me a hands-on understanding of recording, production and the realities of working with musicians and artists.

I've played and worked across a wide range of styles, from Drum & Bass, Jungle, Hip Hop and R&B to Dub, Dubstep, Garage, House, Breaks and Electronica. I'm passionate about finding the connections between different genres and helping people develop their own musical identity rather than trying to fit into one particular style.

Alongside DJing, I work in music production, recording and Ableton Live, and I regularly run music workshops and 1-to-1 sessions. I've worked with people with very different levels of experience, so I understand that everyone learns differently.

I'm friendly, patient and genuinely enjoy helping people get better at something they're passionate about. Whether you're completely new to DJing or already have some experience, I'll meet you where you are and help you build your skills and confidence in a relaxed, judgement-free environment.

For me, DJing isn't just about learning to play two records back to back, it's about understanding music, developing your ear, finding your style and learning how to create a set that feels like you.

About the lesson

Ey, do you want to learn how to DJ but not sure where to start? Or, are you already mixing and want to take your skills to the next level?

I offer practical 1-to-1 controller based DJ lessons tailored around your experience, your taste in music and what you actually want to achieve. Whether you're starting from scratch, learning to mix, building your first proper set or looking to become more confident and creative behind the decks, we'll work at your pace and focus on the skills that matter.

Lessons can cover basic beatmatching, phrasing, transitions, EQing, track selection, mixing techniques, set building, finding your own style and using DJ software and equipment alongside live elements and sequencing programmes like Ableton Live.

I can also help you understand how to read any dancefloor and put together sets that get people dancing. I'll show you how to flow rather than simply stringing tracks together.

I've been DJing across different styles for years, including Funk & Soul, Drum & Bass, Jungle, Hip Hop, R&B, Dub, Dubstep, Garage, House, Breaks, 140, Electronica and many more.

My approach is relaxed, encouraging and hands-on. I want you to understand why something works, not just copy a technique.

Whether your goal is to DJ at parties, play clubs, mix for friends, start recording mixes or simply get better at something you love, I'll help you build the confidence and skills to make it your own.
