About Yaacob

About me

I'm a senior full stack web developer with more than eight years of professional experience building software that real businesses depend on. My work spans the full stack — front-end interfaces, back-end systems, databases and cloud deployment — using tools like JavaScript and TypeScript, React, Next.js, Node.js, Laravel and PostgreSQL.

Over the years I've worked with software companies and agencies, and I currently build and maintain applications for clients in the Philippines, Canada and Australia. I also run my own web development practice, which means I handle projects end to end: understanding what a client needs, designing the solution, writing the code, and supporting it after launch.

Before moving into software full time, I worked in education. That experience taught me something many developers never learn — how to explain a difficult idea clearly, adjust to how a particular person learns, and stay patient when something doesn't click on the first try. Technical skill and teaching skill are not the same thing, and I've spent years developing both.

I take tutoring seriously and treat it as professional work. I prepare for sessions, keep track of your progress, follow through on what we agreed to cover, and give you honest feedback about where you stand. If I don't think I'm the right fit for what you need, I'll say so directly rather than waste your time or money.

My teaching method

I teach programming the way it's actually done at work: by building things. Concepts are introduced only when you need them to solve the problem in front of you, so nothing feels abstract or disconnected. I don't lecture for an hour — you write code in every session while I watch, ask questions, and correct your thinking as you go.

My focus is on the fundamentals that survive every trend: logic, breaking a problem into steps, reading error messages, debugging on your own, and writing code another person can understand. Learn these once and any language becomes a matter of syntax.

A typical lesson

Each session runs about the same shape: a short review of what you built last time and where you got stuck, a new concept explained with a concrete example, then the bulk of the hour spent coding while I guide you. We end by agreeing on a small task you'll finish before we meet again. I check that work at the start of the next lesson — this is what keeps progress from stalling.

What sets me apart

I'm a working senior full stack developer with over 8 years of professional experience, currently building production applications for clients in Canada, Australia and the Philippines. I'm not teaching from a textbook I read last year — I'm teaching what I use daily. That also means I can tell you honestly which skills employers care about and which ones are a waste of your time.

Who these lessons are for

Complete beginners with zero background, students taking programming subjects who are struggling to keep up, self-taught learners who've collected tutorials but can't build anything on their own, and career shifters aiming for their first developer job. Lessons are one-on-one and paced to you.
