My approach to teaching saxophone is student-centered and adaptable. I focus on building strong fundamentals—tone production, breath control, embouchure, articulation, and reading music—while also encouraging musical expression and creativity. Lessons combine technical exercises with practical playing so students develop both skill and confidence. I incorporate a variety of styles (classical, jazz, pop, and contemporary music) depending on the student’s interests, which helps keep lessons engaging and motivating. I also use play-along tracks, ear training exercises, and improvisation practice to help students develop a well-rounded musical ability.
A typical lesson is structured but flexible based on the student’s goals and progress. Lessons usually include:
Warm-up exercises: breathing, long tones, and tone development
Technical practice: scales, articulation, and finger technique
Repertoire work: learning and refining songs or pieces
Musicianship skills: rhythm practice, ear training, or basic improvisation
Feedback and goals: review progress and set practice goals for the next lesson
Lessons are open to students of all levels—from complete beginners to intermediate players looking to improve technique and musicality. I work with children, teenagers, and adults, whether they are learning saxophone for school band programs, personal enjoyment, or more serious musical development. Lessons can be adapted for different learning goals, including reading music, improvisation, audition preparation, or simply playing favorite songs.
