About Thomas

Being raised in the Dominican Republic, I have been fluent in Spanish from a young age. Additionally, when I migrated to Germany, I acquired German as my second native language. As a language teacher for both German as a foreign language and Spanish, I have encountered the constraints imposed by the public school system. This experience led me to establish my own business as a self-employed Spanish teacher. Moreover, my personal journey of learning French has influenced the development of my teaching approach, known as YaHablas! This method is tailored to meet the specific needs of my students. If you are seeking to learn Spanish from a proficient and culturally aware native speaker, you have come to the right place! My intercultural sensitivity, combined with my own experiences as a language learner in a foreign culture, allows me to provide exceptional support. Furthermore, my diverse teaching background, along with my current immersion in Senegal, further enhances my ability to deliver engaging and effective lessons. I eagerly look forward to accompanying you on your path to mastering the Spanish language! Until then, I wish you every success. Adiós! Thomas Rosario

Are you tired of traditional language learning methods that focus too much on grammar and not enough on practical conversation skills? Look no further! I have developed the revolutionary YaHablas-Method, a groundbreaking approach that prioritizes speaking from the very beginning.

It guides you through Spanish grammar while improving pronunciation, stress patterns, and sentence formulation. The unique "Question and Answer" catalog helps construct relevant conversations based on real-life contexts.

Moreover, we will dive into the world of modal verbs, equipping you with essential tools to express desires, showcase abilities, and navigate permissions and obligations effectively. You'll be amazed at how quickly you can communicate with confidence right from the start.

To make your learning even more immersive, we take a virtual tour of a city. Together, we navigate its streets, ask for directions, describe the locations of various places, shops, and institutions. Through these simulated conversations, you'll gain confidence in real-life scenarios and develop the skills to communicate naturally with native speakers.

Join the YaHablas-Method to unlock your true potential as a Spanish speaker and navigate the Spanish-speaking world with ease and fluency!

  • Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

As a native of the Dominican Republic, I speak Spanish fluently, which was the only language I used in my daily life during my first eleven years. However, when I moved to Germany, I began to immerse myself in the German language, and over time, I became proficient in it as well. Being bilingual has enabled me to communicate with people from different cultures and has opened up various opportunities for me. Furthermore, learning a new language has helped me to broaden my understanding of different customs and has enriched my perspective on the world.
  • Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of Spanish language culture?

Junot Díaz, a Dominican-American writer and poet, is regarded as an emblematic representative of Spanish language culture. He is known for his works that explore themes of immigration, identity, and the experiences of Dominican Americans living in the United States. He is also a vocal advocate for social justice and has received numerous awards for his contributions to literature and culture, including a Pulitzer Prize, a MacArthur Fellowship, and the National Book Critics Circle Award. Through his writing and activism, Díaz has become an important voice for Dominican Americans and a symbol of the rich cultural heritage and linguistic diversity of the Spanish language.
  • Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behavior in the language that you particularly like?

"Mi casa es su casa" is a phrase commonly used to express hospitality and welcome someone into one's home or make them feel at ease in a new environment. It reflects the culture of warmth and generosity often associated with Spanish-speaking countries and signifies a willingness to share what one has with others.

The phrase goes beyond just physical space and encompasses the act of making someone feel comfortable and accepted. It highlights the significance of hospitality and generosity in Spanish culture and serves as a reminder to treat others with kindness and respect, particularly within the home setting.
  • Why does speaking this language matter to you?

Speaking Spanish helps me to connect with my Latin roots and gives me a sense of belonging, as I identify with Spanish-speaking communities.
  • What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

Learning Spanish can be difficult due to its complex grammar structure, verb conjugations, noun gender, sentence structure rules, and the many regional variations and dialects. However, regular practice and immersion in the language, using a variety of learning resources and focusing on specific areas of difficulty.

Finally, having a positive attitude and a willingness to make mistakes and learn from them is crucial. Learning a new language can be challenging, but maintaining a growth mindset and embracing the learning process can help to make it a more enjoyable and rewarding experience.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

During my time in school, I accidentally used the word "bitch" instead of "beach," causing a very awkward situation. This amusing anecdote emphasizes the significance of practicing pronunciation and expanding vocabulary in language learning. It also highlights the need to possess a sense of humor and not take oneself too seriously. Making mistakes is a natural and expected aspect of the language learning process that should be regarded as an opportunity to learn and improve.
  • How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

As a native Spanish teacher and avid traveler, I can say that my travel experiences have been invaluable in increasing my language skills and knowledge. Through interacting with native Spanish speakers from different regions and countries, I have learned about dialectical and cultural variations in the language. Additionally, immersing myself in the culture of the countries I visit has helped me to understand how Spanish is used in different social situations, improving my ability to teach my students about adapting their language to different contexts. Overall, my travel experiences have been a valuable tool in improving my Spanish skills and have allowed me to be a better Spanish teacher.
  • What makes you a Superprof in language?

As a native Spanish speaker, I possess several advantages while teaching the language. I can offer an authentic and intuitive understanding of Spanish, which includes its grammar, pronunciation, cultural context, and idiomatic expressions. Additionally, I have proficiency in English, German, Portuguese, French, and Italian, which enables me to showcase comparable language patterns to students who already have familiarity with these languages. This often results in a moment of realization for students.
