About Wilfredo

I’m Dr. Wilfredo José Burgos Matos, a college professor and language expert with a Ph.D. in Iberian and Latin American Languages and Cultures from The University of Texas at Austin. I specialize in Spanish language, Latin American and Caribbean cultures, literature, and communication. I have taught Spanish at universities including UT Austin, Lehman College, and John Jay College of Criminal Justice, and have also founded and led online training programs dedicated to teaching Spanish for healthcare and mental health contexts. I bring extensive experience in language education, bilingual communication, and creative pedagogy, using music, film, audiovisual materials, literature, and real-world conversation to make Spanish engaging, practical, and unforgettable. Whether you’re a beginner, college student, heritage speaker, professional, or advanced learner, I’ll tailor our lessons to your goals and help you speak Spanish with confidence!

Learn Spanish with Dr. Wilfredo!

I hold a Ph.D. in Spanish from The University of Texas at Austin, with a special focus on Latin American and Iberian Literatures and Languages. As an experienced college professor, I bring academic expertise, creativity, and a passion for language and culture to every lesson.

My teaching goes beyond textbooks and memorization. I use music, film, audiovisual materials, literature, popular culture, and real-world conversations to make Spanish come alive. Whether we are analyzing a song, exploring a film clip, practicing conversation, or working through a challenging grammar concept, I want you to actively experience the language.
