About Georgia
Native Greek with 7 years of experience in teaching ancient and modern Greek to native and non-native speakers of various levels. My passion stems from my strong belief that ancient Greece can teach us a lot about our modern life. Putting this piece together has been a history lesson for me. These ancient Greek philosophers and statesmen used few words to express pearls of wisdom that stand up today as guidelines for living wisely and compassionately. From Heraclitus’ understanding of the ever-changing nature of life to Epictetus’ and Seneca’s cautionary words about the perils of desire to Aristotle advising us to educate the heart as well as the mind, there’s much food for thought here.

Unfortunately, teachers are the main authority figure in a teacher-centred instruction model. Students are viewed as “empty vessels” external link who passively receive knowledge from their teachers through lectures and direct instruction, with an end goal of positive results from testing and assessment. In this style, teaching and assessment are viewed as two separate entities; student learning is measured through objectively scored tests and assessments. However, I strongly believe that with a student-centred lesson, teaching and assessment are connected because student learning is continuously measured during teacher instruction.

It’s not just her teaching skills that impress me. Georgia was a joy to work with because of her positive attitude and ability to never give up on a child. Her commitment and empathy were also necessary and valued not just by myself, but also by my little Jessy.
I am a parent of two children and both of them have had the privilege of being taught Ancient Greek by Georgia. My kids suddenly developed interest in this language and they performed very well in it. She is very attentive to every student's needs problems. Most students have her as their favorite teacher and she has an excellent relationship with the parents if it is for a young child.
A big THANK YOU!!! Georgia sets high, but not unreasonable, standards for her students and then she gives them the tools to succeed. Students are motivated and her successful teaching techniques are reflected in her students' standardised test scores. She has a gift for making her students think. She does not spoon feed them the information, but helps them understand how to figure things out for themselves. Her classes are never boring. She uses a plethora of methods to keep the students interested and engaged.
