About Madison

I am a graduate student in South Dakota pursuing my Master of Arts degree in Communication and Media Studies. I currently teach the basic public speaking course on my campus to 70+ students each semester. I have experience with elevator pitches, informative, persuasive, policy, and commemorative speeches. I am excited to work with you!

About the lesson

My teaching philosophy focuses on student-centered learning and kindness. My lessons are geared toward students who may or may not have taken the basic public speaking course in their K-12 years and are now taking the course at the high school or college level. I am willing to adjust my lessons for younger students to be a bit more basic.

For me, student-centered learning is about being engaged during our time together. Students are more likely to be engaged when they feel that they can focus and be excited about what we work on together. My students will have the opportunity to share their opinions and meld our ideas together to create a great speech or presentation.

Kindness is also very important in my classroom. Life comes with lots of challenges, especially after 2020. I want my students to feel that they can share or vent appropriately and respectfully. Mental health is a large part of students' success, and I want them to be successful in all walks of life.
